We started off in glorious sunny weather and it stayed that way through the busy traffic in Edinburgh and down to Newcasle to get the ferry. Off on Saturday in the same condition and headed north into Germany and stopped in a small town in the North in a Greek owned hotel, we were treated to a glass of Ouzo before our meal, the pint of beer went down well afterwards. A long day in the saddle and multiple traffic queues plus crazy and stupid drivers. An early night and an early start the next day to get the ferry over the river Elbe. Chatting to a very nice couple on the boat and they said we could follow them on the small roads for a while before hooking onto the motorway just south of the Danish border.
The driving in Denmark was just as bad, the roadworks worse, and the prices were crazy for petrol and food, no wonder the Europeans come to Scotland. It turned a bit colder and started raining (still 20 degrees) so we had to Don the waterproofs, just before that we made the decision to press on up to the North as the forecast was very wet for Monday.
We arrived in Hirtshalls around 9 hours after we left Germany in the morning.
Meal in the hotel was average ,single course and 2 beers each for a bargain £118 , christ, I'll not complain about the uk for a while.
Today it did rain so when it eased we walked down to get our tickets for tomorrow for Norway. No hotel meal tonight just some salad from the supermarket!

leaving Newcastle

having a beer on the ship

warm
expensive fish and chips and very expensive beer at Hirtshall Harbour chippy
After only one beer Fiona started to get creative with the photos
That's it for now, 800 miles and all good, hopefully another update from Norway

ReplyDeleteI know I'm a bit of a cheapskate, but £118.00 for fish chips and a beer or two, I would be looking for a very good night for that!! Sounding good, fingers crossed for good weather for you. Budge.
